Year End Ride to close out a full 4000 mi for the year.

Forecast tomorrow morning is for snow and sleet. So I set out at 9:30 this evening to get in my last miles for 2009 and put myself over the top for year. Beautiful almost moonlit night but the clouds are already rolling in. The world is beautiful on a holiday night with so many homes light up and not too many people out and about. Barring an unexpected sunny day tomorrow, that's probably it for 2009.

Editorial note: The post above reads as I wrote it on 12/30/3009. Several days in to the new year I discovered a math error from Aug, 2009 that carried forward in my YTD totals for all of 2009. I actually finished 2009 with 3997 miles. : -( The cumulative numbers on the blog reflect this actual 2009 mileage.

SPP 05:45

Cold and windy this morning. 29 deg F with gusts up to 40 mph. But Chris and Chip both braved the cold to join me. Love the bike club.

Sunday Ride with SPP

There's still snow on the trail but the rain yesterday cleaned up the roads nicely. Coffee and an egg sandwich sitting in the sun in downtown Annapolis was delightful.

Saturday Bagel Ride

Saturday Bagel Ride with SPP - Rainy day, 45 deg F. Just three of us, but we had a nice time anyway. The Goretex rain gear is remarkable. I really can ride in a cold rain and be comfortable enough to enjoy myself. My hands still get wet. Gotta find a better glove for the rain. But otherwise it's good.

Met Isaias, goes by NoRacer on this blog. It was his blog here that got me to try this service. He rides a lot and documents it extensively.
*Note: this was written on Bimjournals.com before moving to blogspot.com

He was riding a new bike with Schwalbe studded snow tires. The rolling resistance on those must be significant. But he just kept riding through it.

Clint fell in the first mile trying to negotiate ice on the trail. Not clear if the broken stem bolt caused the fall or vice versa. He got up spent two minutes evaluating a fix and concluded road side repair was impractical. He finished the ride his handle bars swinging loose in the stem. Thought nothing of it.

Riding with guys like that makes me marvel at how much some people devote to this sport. Both incredible athletes. Pretty good as breakfast companions too.

Christmas Day

Mid 30's and overcast but the rain held off until I was done. Hoping for similar consideration from the weather the rest of the month so I can get to 4000 mi. for the year.

Christmas Eve Ride

The snow was fun but now it's just in the way. Had to get out and spin my legs. 5 am, 17 deg F. Rode down College Pkwy to Sandy Point and back. Then off to special Thu edition of Friday breakfast. 500 Mi for Dec looks out of reach, but maybe I can still make 4000 Mi for the year.

Ride To Work

Rode to work this morning. Cold and clear. Neat sunrise over the airport as I crested the hill. 14.8 Mph average speed. Best ever for ride to work.

From the office to Severna Park High School to hear the Severna Park Middle School band perform. Jessi and Morgan and the whole band were great. I love that they always include the Marine Corps version of the National Anthem in their performances. The seasonal music was lovely too. Then threw the bike on the truck to come home.
