It's been much too long. But I've finally gotten back on to my bike with some regularity. In no smal part this is thanks to my friend and ride partner Chris. We've managed to cajole each other off of the couch and on to the saddle. We've set ourselves a goal to ride the GAP and C&O Canal trails this fall from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC.
Training to get ready for this trip will require some work and discipline. But it feels good to be a bit more active again. Since finishing the Lap of the Lake (Ontario) 1000K ride in 2014 (wow, it's really been 3 years), I've let my activity level and fitness fall. I've packed on weight, caused more than a bit of wear and tear to my knees, and missed a trip last summer with my son and other scouts to hike in New Mexico because of it. I've not been totally idle. Regular weekend camping with the scouts has kept from being completely comatose, but it's not enough to stay ahead of a lousy diet.
I'm working to resolve these self-inflicted set backs and get back in to fighting form. I plan to start writing about it again and will post periodic updates here to note my progress and setbacks. Wish me luck.
Here's this morning's commute to work. My first commute in a very long time.
